She married Frank William Kasdorf in Cleveland, Ohio, May 30, 1942. (Frank William Kasdorf is #1434.) Frank was born Far Rockaway, New York May 15, 1915. Frank(1) was the son of Frank August Kasdorf and Helen Martha Prohn. Frank died Oct. 24, 2004 Fredericksburg, Virginia, at 89 years of age. At 28 years of age Frank became the father of Judith Ann Kasdorf in Cleveland, Ohio, October 1, 1943. At 30 years of age Frank became the father of Kathryn Lynn Kasdorf Annapolis, Maryland, September, 14, 1945. At 41 years of age Frank became the father of Amy Pollard Kasdorf Fredericksburg, Virginia, May 19, 1956. Date published: 10/26/2004 Frank W. Kasdorf Frank William Kasdorf, 89, of Fredericksburg died unexpectedly Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004. Frances, his wife of 58 years, preceded him in death in 2000. Mr. Kasdorf grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated from Case Institute of Technology, now Case Western Reserve University. Mr. Kasdorf served on active-duty status in the U.S. Naval Reserves during World War II. He remained in the Naval Reserves for 20 years and retired as a Commander. He retired in 1974 from the U.S. Naval Weapons Laboratory, Dahlgren, after 28 years in engineering as a division and department head. He then worked for the state of Virginia heading up the Comprehensive Employment Training Act Program for central Virginia for five years. He and his wife lived at Dahlgren until 1967, when they moved to Fredericksburg. Mr. Kasdorf was an active and faithful member of the Presbyterian Church in Fredericksburg, where he served as an elder and on various committees. He was active in community affairs, including the Historic Fredericksburg Foundation and Military Officers Association of America, formerly known as The Retired Officers Association, where he served as a board member. Mr. Kasdorf enjoyed his friendships with the Morning Coffee Group at Scotty's Bakery and then the Virginia Deli for nearly 30 years. The Kasdorfs were active in Elderhostel and Interhostel programs, participating in nearly 50 trips both in the states and abroad. Mr. Kasdorf was an active member of the Elderstudy program at Mary Washington College, where he served on the board. He was an active board member of Rappahannock Goodwill Industries since 1976, serving in every officer capacity. He volunteered many years with the Fredericksburg Parks and Recreation Department in the tax assistance program and was named Volunteer of the Year in 1996. He is survived by daughters Judith Webb and her husband, Rick, of Denver; Kathryn Purks and her husband, William, of Richmond; and Amy Gonzalez of Richmond. He is also survived by four grandsons, Andrew Webb and his wife, Renee, of Dallas, Michael Webb of Denver, John Purks and his wife, Lelah, of Richmond, and Adam Purks of Richmond; and great-grandson Garrett Webb of Dallas. A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church in Fredericksburg Sunday, Oct. 31, at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor. Frances A. Kasdorf, 81, of Fredericksburg died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, after a long illness.
Born in Portsmouth, N.H., Mrs. Kasdorf lived in Cleveland and Dahlgren before moving to Fredericksburg.
She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church for 33 years, a former member of the Woman's Club of Fredericksburg and a volunteer with Mary Washington Hospital.
She also taught adult reading, volunteered at local elementary schools and taught swimming to handicapped children.
Mrs. Kasdorf worked for the Baptist Student Union and was active in the start of the Fredericksburg Summer Theater and Historic Fredericksburg Foundation Inc.
She also was active in the Dahlgren Garden Club, the Dahlgren Chapel Guild, and was a 50-year member of a close bridge group.
Mrs. Kasdorf sang in the Dahlgren Chapel Choir and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Choir.
She and her husband participated in many ElderStudy and ElderHostel programs for more than 20 years.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Frank W. Kasdorf; their three daughters, Judith K. Webb of Denver and Kathryn K. Purks and Amy K. Gonzalez, both of Richmond; a sister, Barbara A. Schabo of Cleveland; four grandsons; one great-grandson; two nephews; and a niece.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Kasdorf donated her body for medical research.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, Northern Virginia chapter, 10201 Lee Highway, Suite 210, Fairfax, Va. 22030; or the Presbyterian Church, 304 George St., Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.
