At 24 years of age Frances became the mother of Judith Ann Kasdorf in Cleveland, Ohio, October 1, 1943. At 26 years of age Frances became the mother of Kathryn Lynn Kasdorf Annapolis, Maryland, September, 14, 1945. Frances A. Kasdorf, 81, of Fredericksburg died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, after a long illness.
Born in Portsmouth, N.H., Mrs. Kasdorf lived in Cleveland and Dahlgren before moving to Fredericksburg.
She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church for 33 years, a former member of the Woman's Club of Fredericksburg and a volunteer with Mary Washington Hospital.
She also taught adult reading, volunteered at local elementary schools and taught swimming to handicapped children.
Mrs. Kasdorf worked for the Baptist Student Union and was active in the start of the Fredericksburg Summer Theater and Historic Fredericksburg Foundation Inc.
She also was active in the Dahlgren Garden Club, the Dahlgren Chapel Guild, and was a 50-year member of a close bridge group.
Mrs. Kasdorf sang in the Dahlgren Chapel Choir and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Choir.
She and her husband participated in many ElderStudy and ElderHostel programs for more than 20 years.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Frank W. Kasdorf; their three daughters, Judith K. Webb of Denver and Kathryn K. Purks and Amy K. Gonzalez, both of Richmond; a sister, Barbara A. Schabo of Cleveland; four grandsons; one great-grandson; two nephews; and a niece.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Kasdorf donated her body for medical research.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, Northern Virginia chapter, 10201 Lee Highway, Suite 210, Fairfax, Va. 22030; or the Presbyterian Church, 304 George St., Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.
