Elisabeth was born in Bad Salzungen, Sachsen-Meiningen January 7, 1833.⁽⁸¹³⁴⁾ Elisabeth⁽⁸¹³⁵⁾ was the daughter of Caspar Bing and Elisabeth Unknown. At 34 years of age Elisabeth became the mother of George John Metz in Chicago, Illinois, June 7, 1867.⁽⁸¹³⁶⁾

Sarah was born in Niles Center, IL August 20, 1869.⁽⁸¹⁴³⁾ Sarah⁽⁸¹⁴⁴⁾ was the daughter of Christian Friedrich Kasdorf and Hanna Caroline Fredericka Sophia Kasdorf. Sarah died June 10, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois, at 57 years of age.⁽⁸¹⁴⁵⁾ At 24 years of age Sarah became the mother of Alvin Henry Metz Sr. in Chicago, Illinois, November 26, 1893.⁽⁸¹⁴⁶⁾ The Metzes were painters and paper hangers by profession, owned houses, spoke Hochdeutsch, and were somewhat snooty vis-a-vis the Kasdorfs. George John Metz was one of the first plumbers in Chicago, which was a new trade at that time.
